Another year at the InsuResilience Global Partnership is coming to an end. It was a year still marked by the pandemic, nonetheless our members have demonstrated once again that they stand strong and united behind our Vision 2025. As you will see in the articles below, the many activities our members have engaged with showcase our strong collaboration and ambition.  

Therefore, in this issue of the newsletter, we want to share highlights from our partnership and members activities that are paving the way for 2022. These include a throwback to the 2021 Annual Forum, the conclusions of the 5th High-Level Consultative Group (HLCG) meeting, the launch of our InsuResilience Magazine, as well as the launch of the CoE on Gender-smart Solutions and the Evidence Roadmap at COP26.

The 2021 InsuResilience Annual Forum took place virtually once again on the 28th and 29th of October, ahead of the UNFCCC COP26.  

The two-day event allowed our members and community to engage in insightful conversations, exchange on best practices and discuss future directions to jointly drive forward effective, affordable, and accessible Climate Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance solutions.    

From the Leaders Dialogue sessions to regional sessions or the interview with Nobel Prize winner Prof. Abhijit Banerjee, this year’s forum marked a one-of-a-kind event that allowed us to share the full scope of our work with all of our community.    

5th HLCG Meeting 2021 

The HLCG came together for their fifth meeting on the margins of COP26, on October 27th, kickstarting the discussion over the current state and future of the global climate and disaster risk finance and insurance (CDRFI) architecture. Through the many exchanges by the members, it became clear the need to adapt the setup on solutions and working together to be fit for purpose in light of accelerating climate change, marking this as the core topic for the upcoming year.

As what can be seen as one part of this global CDRFI architecture, the HLCG took up the topic of the SMART premium and capital support principles, by approving the principles and further discussing their implementation to enhance the affordability of insurance instruments.

InsuResilience Global Partnertship at COP26

Our strong involvement in the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 marked another cornerstone towards fulfilling our Vision 2025. Our contributions were geared towards achieving collaborative progress for Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) with regard to increasing gender equality, providing guidance and principles for actors working in CDRFI, and promoting evidence-based approaches for policy and practice.

We are proud to announce new milestones at COP26 for the work of the InsuResilience Global Partnership and provide you with an overview of events that the InsuResilience Global Partnership shaped, co-branded or partook. 

At COP26, we officially launched the InsuResilience Centre of Excellence on Gender-smart Solutions (CoE). The CoE is the first information repository and knowledge exchange platform on gender in the Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance field. At the launch event, our keynote speakers shared inspiring stories on how gender-inclusive financing and insurance solutions empower women and men to increase the resilience of their communities.
